Bought a Sony T630 Phone

I just changed my cell to a Sony Ericcson T630 GSM GPRS phone. I bought it this week when I was in Brussels for 200 euros. The phone is ok but the software with it for syncing is aweful so far. I use Lotus Notes for my calendar/address book and email etc. I bought the full version of XDNTConnect to sync between notes and the phone. Its pretty bad. Super slow, it takes ages to sync. It seems to transfer a single calendar record per second when syncing. It also uses 'slow sync' all the time. I was hoping for much faster sync times, i.e. seconds.

The phone itself is nice enough. After some fiddling, I have GPRS working with TMobile, my provider, and while it's no speed demon it works.

XTNDConnect currently takes 30 seconds just to find the phone on a sync. The initial sync took about 4 minutes for me and incremental sync since are the same even when there are no changes! XTNDConnect always uses 'slow sync' mode also for incremental syncs which is beginning to drive me berserk. I don't know what these guys were thinking when they thought they could ship this but it's pretty aweful and I'm being kind. I may buy intellisync to see if that is any better because I can't live with this as a syncing solution.

Any way, as I play more, I'll post more info.

Why don't you use Bluetooth? The T630 includes it.

I have a Sony Ericsson k700i and also needed to sync with Notes. I have a Thinkpad T41p with Windows XP which has bluetooth. I was able to sync with Notes just by setting up the default bluetooth software that comes with XP. Just set Notes as your PIM and Calendar app in the Bluetooth preferences and you should be on your way.

Send me an email (or look me up in Sametime) if you need help setting it up.
